'Oh my gosh': Some Molineux stars adamant about who scored Wolves' Goal of the Season in 2023/24

Wolves fans have been treated to some fantastic goals this season, and some of them have now chosen which one they think was the best.

Gary O’Neil‘s side have hit the back of the net fairly regularly this term, scoring 49 times in the Premier League in 36 games. They have managed a further 16 in the cups.

It was one of the biggest issues Wolves have had since the club’s promotion back to the top-flight in 2018 and thankfully, it has now been addressed – and that has been largely without an out-and-out striker.

The goals have been shared around this term, and there have been some outstanding efforts.

Wolves have just opened the voting for the Goal of the Season award which will be presented later this month.

There are some fine efforts to choose from, including Pablo Sarabia‘s wonderful show of technique against Tottenham Hotspur, Hwang Hee-chan‘s chop and finish against Newcastle and Tommy Doyle‘s thunderbolt against Brentford in the FA Cup.

But there is one other effort that proved a little bit more popular than all of those…

Wolves stars absolutely loved Matheus Cunha’s goal against Nottingham Forest

Last month, Wolves took on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, playing out a 2-2 draw.

There was a moment of absolute genius in the first-half when Matheus Cunha collected the ball from Jose Sa in his own half and carried it all the way to the left side of the penalty area.

He then turned inside between two defenders, and fired an unstoppable strike into the far top corner.

It was a shame Wolves couldn’t get the win, because the goal deserved to count for more than just a point.

But it was a special goal from Cunha, who was starting his first game after returning from injury.

Wolves have just released a reel on Instagram, where the players have looked at the current options for Goal of the Season – and Cunha’s effort received the most votes from the players asked.

Tom King, Joao Gomes, Tommy Doyle, Nelson Semedo, Matt Doherty and Hwang Hee-chan all opted for the Brazilian’s effort against the Reds as the best by a Wolves player this season. Mario Lemina initially voted for Sarabia, before changing to Cunha under pressure from his teammate, who was with him during filming.

Semedo was particularly amazed watching it back, saying ‘Oh my gosh. It was such a nice goal’.

At the time, BBC pundit Garth Crooks branded it an ‘exquisite’ goal by the Brazilian.

Cunha’s goal may edge Sarabia’s

Wolves fans are spoilt for choice in this year’s Goal of the Season vote – but Cunha’s strike against Forest would be a worthy winner.

Sarabia’s goal against Spurs was an amazing show of technical ability, and very important in the context of that game.

But Cunha’s may just slightly edge it, given how much work he had to do when he got the ball. As Doherty points out in the clip, the star probably wasn’t feeling 100% having just come back from injury, and yet he still sprinted most of the field to score.

He had no real right to find the back of the net. But he did, and undoubtedly it’ll receive a lot of votes from supporters.
