NC State Newsstand: Wolfpack ranked in The Athletic’s post-spring top 25

There are 111 days until NC State kicks off the football season against Western Carolina under the lights at Carter-Finley Stadium, and the Wolfpack is on the national radar.

NC State, which brought in the seventh-best transfer portal class in On3’s Industry Ranking, was ranked No. 21 in The Athletic’s college football post-spring top 25.

“The Wolfpack made a huge acquisition at quarterback in landing Coastal Carolina transfer Grayson McCall,” The Athletic’s Ari Wasserman wrote. “They also added former Ohio State wide receiver Noah Rogers, a North Carolina native and one-time top-50 national prospect. It’ll be hard to overcome the loss of linebacker Payton Wilson, one of the best defensive players in the country a year ago, and there are plenty of personnel questions in the secondary. But Dave Doeren always has this team ready to go.”

In addition to McCall and Rogers, the two headliners of the Pack’s transfer portal haul, NC State also added Duke running back Jordan Waters, UConn tight end Justin Joly and Notre Dame center Zeke Correll among others. That trio is expected to start for the red and white as well.
