Report: Man Utd had scouts watching on as 17-year-old wonderkid made senior debut

Manchester United had scouts watching Porto on Saturday, but who might the eyes have been on during this scouting trip?

After Monday’s result, the Premier League season feels to be over, with little left to play for and the team itself looking atrocious, which doesn’t bode well for the FA Cup final.

Manchester United were well beaten by Crystal Palace and this made it just one win in seven in the league which is extremely concerning and leaves Erik ten Hag in a tricky situation.

So with interest in the league campaign dropping, attention as expected has turned toward the transfer window.

Several recurrent names are cropping up but also the scouts at Old Trafford seem to be very busy and this past weekend, they were of use once again.

Manchester United may have been scouting Goncalo Sousa on Saturday

As the transfer window draws ever closer, United have been once more scouting to find the perfect players to sign this summer.

According to the Mail Online in their Man United confidential, this search has taken the Red Devils to Porto.

It’s reported there were scouts present as Porto beat Chaves 3-0 away from home but questions have been raised over who the subject of interest was.

In the report, it was suggested that 17-year-old wonderkid Goncalo Sousa may have been the target of interest as he made his first team debut.

Emerging from the bench in the 83rd minute the hot prospect will have multiple eyes from around Europe watching so it’d be unsurprising if he was also on United’s radar.

Who is Goncalo Sousa?

Sousa is a 17-year-old Portuguese winger who is currently an U18 international, with two goals in his three caps.

Despite only just making his senior debut, it’s been a long time coming as he has long been tipped as an excellent prospect in the Porto ranks.

In nine UEFA Youth League games this season, he’s scored twice and assisted twice.

A right winger by trade, Sousa can also play on the left or even up top, which makes him an exciting target who’d likely be an academy acquisition initially.

Sousa is a boyhood Porto player and was born in Ermesinde which is just 10.6 kilometers from the Estadio do Dragao.
