'By a country mile': ESPN pundit now says who's better equipped for future success - Chelsea or Man Utd

Chelsea and Manchester United have not had the best seasons this term.

They are both outside of the top four, with Chelsea sitting in seventh, while Manchester United are in eighth.

The former actually overtook the latter recently after thrashing West Ham United 5-0.

Erik ten Hag’s men could have reclaimed their spot but were beaten 4-0 by Crystal Palace, leaving Chelsea in the last European place.

Of course, United can still qualify for Europe by winning the FA Cup and are only behind their rivals on goal difference so are probably in a better position than them right now.

Pundit discusses Chelsea and Manchester United

There is clearly a lot of work to do if Chelsea and United want to catch up to the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Whatever the case, going forward, former USA international Janusz Michallik has suggested that one of those teams will be more successful than the other.

When asked on ESPN FC if Chelsea are better equipped for future success than United, Michallik said: “By a country mile because they’re earlier to the process, aren’t they, right? I mean, I’ve said it here, talking about Manchester United and Chelsea’s season, it’s been disappointing and similar in so many ways. But the one big difference is that there are a lot of young players that are coming good.

“OK, pressure is off, so that’s a little bit easier. We’ll see if that continues for the rest of the season and obviously we’re going to judge Chelsea differently next season as well because our expectations are going to be higher.

“I think we’re going to want to see Chelsea from the beginning to show that at the very least that they can contend for the top four after spending so much money.”

Who will finish higher in the Premier League table next season, Chelsea or Manchester United?

Chelsea have been shocking for most of this campaign and have had so many injuries but still find themselves above United in the current table.

With that in mind, then, with a couple of additions and a fit squad, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men should easily finish above the Red Devils.

Regarding who could come in to help them do that, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is still being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

In the race for top four next season, United are probably not a team Chelsea will have to worry about.
