Report: Nottingham Forest want international centre-back who wins more headers than Murillo

Nottingham Forest are now in the market for a new central defender who has won more headers than Murillo this season.

The Reds will go in search of a number of new players this summer.

It does feel like it will be another busy summer for Forest regardless of the division they find themselves in next season.

One area that could need reinforcing is the centre of defence with a couple of question marks over a few current options.

Now, it would seem as though one central defender is being touted for a move to Forest – although they’re not the only club that fancy taking a chance him.

Nottingham Forest rival two clubs for Logan Costa

Well, the links are starting to surface and this one would see Forest land a relatively unknown quantity.

According toL’Equipe, the Reds want to sign Toulouse central defender Logan Costa this summer.

However, they won’t be in the race to sign him alone, with Fulham and Villarreal thought to be keen.

The report does claim that a third Premier League club might be interested too; with West Ham and Brighton both mentioned.

Toulouse might let Costa go this summer, despite the fact he has a deal until the summer of 2026 in France.

If the club do let him leave it’s claimed that they’re hoping to recoup a club record transfer fee that would exceed £18 million.

Who is Logan Costa?

The 23-year-old is a Cape Verde international and has been with Toulouse since 2021 when he signed from Stade Reims.

A central defender, he’s also played for Le Mans on loan and has proved a very useful player for Toulouse.

During the 2023/24 campaign he’s played 36 appearances and it’s fair to say that his appearances have caught the eye.

When comparing him to Forest players, Costa has played one game less than Murillo – and in terms of heading he’s outdoing the Brazilian.

Costa has won 63 aerial duels this season, with Murillo only winning 32 from his 30 appearances, according to Squawka.

The player spent his time playing youth football for France at international level but now has five Cape Verde caps to his name.

Forest must sign centre-back this summer

It’s fair to say that this will likely be a priority based on how the current campaign has panned out.

Keeping clean sheets has proved tricky and more defensive reinforcements ar necessary.

Furthermore, some players at the back will likely leave, with Felipe definitely calling time on his career.

Willy Boly hasn’t been offered anything for next season yet, whilst Murillo has a whole host of admirers.

The only defender who is pretty certain to be around the City Ground next season is Moussa Niakhate.

With that in mind, another defender or two wouldn’t go amiss and in our view, Costa looks like a a player who could make an impact.
