Darren Bent slams actions of Anfield star despite ‘Liverpool fans sticking by him’

This has been a tough old ending to the season for Liverpool fans.

Only a matter of months ago, everyone was rightfully looking forward to possibly watching Jurgen Klopp leave on an all-time high.

Yes, the departing Liverpool boss will still receive a huge send-off against Wolves on the final day of the campaign.

But from getting knocked out of the FA Cup in frustrating fashion to watching that unfortunate spat between Klopp and Mohamed Salah.

This isn’t the Hollywood script fans were dreaming of. It was supposed to be better than this, but that is the ruthless side of the game.

One of the reasons behind Liverpool’s recent collapses has been the performances of individual players.

From back to front. Everyone has to hold their hands up and take responsibility because it hasn’t been good enough and there can’t be any excuses.

Darwin Nunez has always been a marmite-like figure on Merseyside, but in recent days, he proceeded to delete everything Liverpool-related from social media.

Darren Bent labelled those actions as ‘disappointing’ because he feels the Anfield faithful have continued to support him, as he told talkSPORT (07/05/24 at 4:40 pm).

The former striker added that fans still see Nunez as a ‘cult hero’ and they ’still sing his name’.

Darwin Nunez and social media

“Do you know what? I think it’s a bit disappointing, first and foremost, because he has been there, this is his second season, though. He has missed a lot of chances, right, like a lot of chances,” said Bent.

“He has scored some good goals in that time, but he has missed a lot of big chances that have probably effectively cost Liverpool points this season. I feel that the Liverpool fans have stayed with him, they still sing his name, they still love him, like a cult hero, they still sing his name.

“And the fact that there has been a bit of adversity, and I hope that he isn’t getting hammered. It looks like he has. Liverpool fans have stuck with him. I know it is difficult to receive the abuse, do you know what I mean? Don’t let them win. Don’t let them win by punishing everybody. Because, as I said, there have been times when he has missed big chances and it has cost them points, but Liverpool fans still sing his name and still love him.”

Liverpool fans will show appreciation for Darwin Nunez

Liverpool’s next game will be an away clash at Aston Villa, before they finish the campaign at home to Wolves.

You know the away faithful, and then the home fans, will do that bit extra to showcase their support for the 24-year-old.

Luis Suarez is already sending his support. But if he is getting criticism for missing big chances, then he needs to take it on the chin.

To succeed at a club the size of Liverpool, you have to take the rough with the smooth and Nunez has to get through this, or else, he will be moved on pretty quickly.
