700lb TV star's overeating was so out of control doctor had to turn him away

After My 600-lb Life season 12 rounded up its batch of six episodes this April, a brand new season of Where Are They Now? kicked off. During season 9 episode 2, fans get to see where Ontreon Shannon is now following his time on the show.

While many My 600-lb Life stars are successful in their weight loss journeys, there are some people who, despite getting Dr Now’s help, can’t get on track and make progress. During Ontreon’s episode, he expressed his frustrations at not being able to stop overeating. His wife, Musa, said: “I get angry too because it’s destroying his life.”

Meet My 600-lb Life’s Ontreon

Ontreon first appeared on My 600-lb Life during season 10 episode 11.

His journey began two years ago. Now, TLC fans are taken back to Plano, Texas to revisit Ontreon.

During flashbacks of his initial episode, he’s seen saying: “…being this big is horrible.”

Ontreon explains how he’s on “13 to 14 medications,” because he has “congestive heart failure.”

He explains: “…that’s the only thing that keeps me out of the hospital,” and asks: “Am I fighting a losing battle?”

Ontreon seeks Dr Now’s help

When it came to his weight in 2022, Ontreon admitted he had an “unhealthy relationship with food.”

He was in pain completing “the most basic daily functions,” adding “I eat and try and forget about my life.”

He reached out to Dr Now for help and headed to Texas to meet him.

His wife explained how he “wanted a family,” but at over 700lb, Ontreon was in no position to have one at the time.

In a bid to not be “a burden to his wife,” he set about on his weight loss journey.

Ontreon’s first weigh-in saw him at 702 lbs. Dr Now placed him on a 1200-calorie diet, and gave him exercises to do twice a day. His first goal was to lose 80 lb in two months.

Two months later, Ontreon headed for his follow-up appointment, he was nervous and felt he “wasn’t even close” to reaching Dr Now’s goal.

He weighed in at 683 lbs and had lost 18 lbs.

Dr Now then put him in contact with Dr Paradise, a psychotherapist, to work through his eating habits.

Ontreon explained to the doctor “there were just a lot of deaths,” in his life that he needed to mourn.

He lost an aunt who he said “was like his sister.”

Dr Paradise explained how Ontreon had “two kinds of weight to lose, physical and emotional.”

Although he set about working on both his emotional and physical baggage, the TLC star ended up weighing more at the next doctor’s appointment. In month 10, he weighed 704 lbs and explained he’d twisted his ankle.

Look who came and worked out with me today! Thank you Mother for coming!

Ontreon made progress

During Ontreon’s journey, he admitted he couldn’t stop overeating and cried about having a food addiction.

However, by the end of his episode, he made progress and was given another chance by Dr Now.

The doctor said: “Since you lost some weight, I’m willing to give you a chance.”

Things ended on a positive note as Dr Now asked him to lose 25lb over two months to get approved for weight loss surgery.

He weighed in at 639 lbs and had lost a further 63 lbs.

Per Ontreon’s Facebook page, he’s still motivated to lose weight as he writes: “This is a journey of my massive weight loss, the goal is to drop approximately 500 pounds. This is the second time go around and hopefully the last.”

In 2022, the TLC star shared snaps of himself in the gym.

And, in April last year, he shared a post suggesting he’s still on his weight loss journey: “On this journey of weight loss I have been pushing myself to step out on faith!”
