Police are continuing to investigate after a late night village crash involving a drink-driver culminated in an assault.
Officers were called to Shepherd’s Gate Road in Tilney All Saints at 11.14pm on Sunday, April 21 following reports of a three-vehicle collision.
Images of the incident have since been shared with the Lynn News by a villager who lives along the road, showing the heavy damage sustained by the cars involved.
The driver of one of the vehicles, a man aged in his 60s, provided a roadside sample of 68mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit to drive is 35mcg.
He was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and taken to hospital for treatment.
No one else was injured. The road was cleared at around 2.30am.
Ian Parker, 59, who lives on Sheperd’s Gate Road with his wife, said the cars which were damaged in the crash were reduced to “write-offs”.
“They have been taken away,” he told the Lynn News.
“I heard this big almighty crash, as though it was a big trailer. When I got out there, it was chaos at 11pm at night.”
Mr Parker says he proceeded to phone an ambulance and the police, but before they reached the scene another group of people arrived. He believes they were family members of the alleged drink-driver.
“As soon as the police came, they disappeared,” he added.
Before that, however, Mr Parker said there was a “punch up” on the road, and he attempted to “get in the middle of it” to stop any more strikes from landing.
His wife then retrieved him from the incident.
“It really got out of hand,” Mr Parker said.
A Norfolk Police spokesperson has confirmed that a man aged in his late teens was assaulted at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing,” they said.
