Report: Tottenham could now pitch bid for 'devastating' £26m forward later this month, talks tabled in

Tottenham Hotspur have a lot of work to do this summer to ensure that their squad can last the distance next season.

Ange Postecoglou has done a good job for the most part since taking the Spurs reins last year, quickly getting the team back on track after a dismal 2022/23 campaign.

Indeed, there was a point in the season where Tottenham looked like potential dark horses for the Premier League title.

However, Spurs’ form has now crumbled, with four consecutive league losses all-but ending their hopes of a top-four spot.

The foundations for Tottenham to build something are certainly in place, and over the coming months, they’ll need to build on them.

One area Spurs could look to bolster is in attack, and a report has just emerged regarding the Lilywhites and a “devastating” forward.

TEAMtalk have reported that Tottenham are among the Premier League clubs in pursuit of Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson.

As well as Spurs, the likes of Aston Villa and Manchester United are apparently keeping tabs on the 26-year-old.

Tottenham have the ‘inside track’ on Gudmundsson thanks to their dealings with Genoa over Radu Dragusin and Djed Spence.

Regarding the latter player, Spurs and Genoa are set to engage in talks in the next few weeks, which is where the Lilywhites could pitch a bid for Gudmundsson.

The Italians are reportedly willing to evaluate proposals of at least €30million (£26million), added the report.

Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Albert Gudmundsson?

Born in Reykjavik, Gudmundsson began his career in KR Reykjavik’s youth setup, before joining Dutch club Heerenveen in 2013.

He progressed through the ranks in the Netherlands, going on to play for the likes of PSV Eindhoven and AZ, before joining Genoa in 2022 for a reported £1million.

Gudmundsson played a key role in their promotion from Serie B in 2022-23, scoring 11 goals and also registering five assists in 36 games.

The reported Tottenham target has continued to develop and has caught the eye of Premier League scouts with 16 goals and four assists from 34 club outings.

Gudmundsson is a versatile player who has featured in central midfield, No. 10, both flanks, second striker and even centre-forward throughout his career.

Late last year, teammate Kevin Strootman even said Gudmundsson reminded him of Mohamed Salah when he was at Roma and deemed him “devastating”.
