Dyche could put £33m exit-linked Everton star in the shop window by starting him vs Sheff United - opinion

Everton are back in action again this weekend, as they host Sheffield United in what will be their final home game of the season.

And whilst their safety was assured weeks ago, the headlines have still been unfortunately dominated by more off-pitch misery, this time regarding the takeover.

777 Partners continue to stall on the deal, but at least an end is in sight, with Alan Myers providing the update that it will be sorted before this Saturday.

We will wait and see on that front, but for now, this home support has to focus on giving Sean Dyche and his side a proper send-off after their heroics in navigating such a tough campaign with relative ease.

Ahead of a summer that promises mass change, and against an already-relegated side who have conceded a record number of goals this season, perhaps the 52-year-old could play it tactically and employ a few players for one specific purpose.

Could Amadou Onana leave Everton this summer?

With transfers in the coming months, to keep the club’s books balanced it feels like outgoings will be far more important than incomings.

Jarrad Branthwaite marks the outstanding asset who will draw huge attention, but to lose him would prove a hammer blow for the Toffees. They have become hugely reliant on his remarkable defensive prowess at the back.

However, one other sellable star whom they are not so dependent on is Amadou Onana, whose exit from the starting side actually coincided with their fine run of wins which dragged them to safety.

Against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Brentford he watched on from the bench for the bulk of them, before making late cameos to see the wins out.

Well, perhaps he could be introduced from the off on Saturday to afford him one last chance to shine before a potential summer exit.

After all, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea are just three of the many sides showing interest.

Everton have more than enough central midfielders

The main reason why Everton can afford Onana to leave is regarding their depth in that role.

Central midfield, inarguably, is their position of greatest depth, especially compared to Branthwaite’s central defence.

Behind the 21-year-old is Michael Keane or Ben Godfrey, whereas in the engine room, Dyche has the likes of James Garner, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gana Gueye and Andre Gomes to choose from.

Should he opt to keep at least three of them around, he could surely reinvest in another body whilst retaining that solid core which has served them well all season.

The Belgium international is a fine footballer, and whilst he often flatters to deceive, few can debate the quality he boasts.

In a stronger, more possession-dominant team, the £33m maestro would likely excel.

And that is why Everton could perhaps sanction his sale, for a huge fee, should he prove his worth on Saturday from the start.
