Report: £13m player is often one of the last to leave Arsenal training ground alongside Saka and Odegaard

When Arsenal looked set to sign Jorginho during the 2023 January transfer window, there appeared to be a large number of Gunners fans who seemed underwhelmed; fearing that they may be putting their own dent in their Premier League title hopes.

Jorginho had struggled for some time at Chelsea, and it appeared that he was potentially past his best by the time Arsenal agreed to pay £13 million for the Italy international.

But the 32-year-old has proved to be an inspired addition for Mikel Arteta’s side, proving to be a steady hand on the pitch, as well as a real leader off it.

In fact, according to a report from The Athletic, Jorginho is often amongst the last to leave London Colney each day, with Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard also in that camp who tend to stay later.

Obviously, Jorginho is not someone who is likely to get considerably better at this stage of his career. But he is someone who has accepted that his role in the Arsenal team will have to adapt as the years go by.

A much more important signing than many realise

His presence in the side has surely helped bring the best out of Declan Rice for much of the campaign, as he has given the Englishman the freedom to roam around the pitch.

And Jorginho has previously spoken about how he is seen as a father figure to players such as Fabio Vieira.

So he is potentially someone whose presence in the squad is almost as important now as anything he does out on the pitch.

Arteta and Edu have put together an extremely young squad with plenty of potential to improve further. Having players such as Jorginho in there too, setting the standards day to day, has certainly helped take the Gunners to that next level.
