Report: Man Utd already looking to replace 2023 signing with £60m player a target this summer

After a torrid 2023-24 season, change will be afoot this summer for Manchester United. This could even see one signing from last summer replaced.

Things haven’t gone as expected this season for Manchester United, as expectations were to at least be in the title conversation for part of the season.

After a summer which on paper was strong, it was assumed Erik ten Hag would build on his third-place finish, but rather things have gone horribly wrong.

Of the arrivals of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, it could be argued none have been a success. Now, reports are suggesting United might be ready to replace one of these already.

Manchester United targeting Alex Remiro as Andre Onana’s replacement

So it comes according to Spanish outlet Marca that at Old Trafford, the club are already fed up with Onana and this sees Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro linked with a move.

United are said to like the idea of signing the 29-year-old who has kept 13 clean sheets in La Liga this season.

The sticking point however does come in his price tag, which is set at a whopping £60m, as he has a release clause set for that value.

It’s an amount that United would be foolish to spend on a goalkeeper and the report agrees suggesting there would be room for negotiation between the two clubs.

The idea of replacing Onana is a baffling one though, as despite his issues this season, he’s had to make 137 saves this season and prevented 2.5 goals, both of which are among the highest in the league.

So how do the two compare and would signing Remiro make sense?

Who is better Onana or Remiro?

With such a huge price tag on Remiro, it’s worth seeing if he’d even be an upgrade on Onana.

Being the United goalkeeper this season is probably the worst it’s ever been as an unprecedented amount of shots are being faced.

So how do these two goalkeepers compare?

Onana vs Remiro 2023-24 season

From this, it’s clear to see just how busy Onana has been in comparison to Remiro.

The Cameroonian has had to deal with zero defensive structure or consistency ahead of him and it’s his big saves which have often kept United in games.

To replace him based on this season would be unfair and rather it should be that he is judged on how he does when the team are doing better and he’s not facing the most shots in the league.

So this move makes little sense and would be a waste of precious transfer budget this summer with more pressing concerns needing to be addressed.
