Report: 'Quality' defender Marcelo Bielsa once criticised is set to leave Leeds United on a free transfer

Leeds United have a number of players that will see their contracts expire in the summer and The Whites have seemingly made a decision on the future of one defender.

Currently in the Leeds side, decisions will have to be made on the likes of Sam Byram, Jamie Shackleton and Liam Cooper. Cooper is still hopeful of extending his Leeds stay beyond 10 years at Elland Road.

Elsewhere, Stuart Dallas has confirmed a decision to retire when his deal ends. Luke Ayling, Cody Drameh and Ian Poveda are out of contract in the summer while remaining out on loan at Championship clubs.

Ayling is at Middlesbrough and Poveda at Sheffield Wednesday, both loans likely to be made permanent. Robin Koch has done just that, cementing a permanent move to join German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Lew Bate is likely to be leaving Leeds despite impressing at MK Dons in League Two and the Yorkshire Evening Post deliver an update on 22-year-old Drameh, who has been at Birmingham City this season.

Here is what the YEP said about “quality” Drameh’s future with his deal expiring in June:

Leeds expected to leat Cody Drameh leave on a free transfer

Remarkably, Drameh has only ever played 10 times for Leeds’ senior side. He has instead spent time on loan at Cardiff, Luton and then Birmingham this season, his first full year’s loan away from Elland Road.

Winning Player of the Season during a half-year’s loan in Wales, Drameh went to Luton for the second half of last season and helped Rob Edwards’ side reach the Premier League in the play-offs.

This term, he started well at Birmingham City but has struggled to continue that form in the second half of the campaign. Injury has struck, limiting Drahem to just 30 appearances for the entire season.

Certainly, not enough to win himself a new deal at Leeds and the YEP say that Drameh is expected to be released by Leeds. It is set to see Drameh leave on a free transfer, with clubs likely to be interested.

What Marcelo Bielsa once said about Drameh after his loan exit

Joining Cardiff in January 2022 from Leeds on loan, Marcelo Bielsa criticised the right-back. He did not agree with Drameh’s decision to leave Elland Road on loan, questioning his decision to “abandon” Leeds.

As per The Mail, Bielsa said: “Clearly, I calculated things wrong. What I consider a great opportunity, those who are benefiting from that position, they prefer to abandon the club looking for another competition.”

Drameh feel as if he has been at Leeds for years but finally, it looks as if the defender will now be exiting Elland Road. Following Birmingham’s relegation, it is unclear where Drameh will end up this summer.
