Ben Foster has said that one Manchester City player does a very important job for the team that goes unnoticed.
With just four games left to play before the entire season comes to a close, the Blues could end up winning a fourth Premier League title in a row and another FA Cup.
In the Premier League, the Citizens have won 25 of their 35 played matches, drawing seven and losing three.
Throughout the campaign, Pep Guardiola’s side have scored 87 goals and conceded 33.
Now though, one pundit and former top-flight figure has highlighted one player in Pep Guardiola’s squad who has played a big role in getting his side into another title race and shared some significant praise for him.
Foster says Erling Haaland does something very important aside from scoring goals
Speaking in a recent video shared on the Premier League’s YouTube channel where he went through this season’s nominees for the Young Player of the Year award, Foster had this to say about Erling Haaland.
He said: “It’s his second season in a row he’s scored over 20 goals. I think teams have maybe started to work him out a little bit but that only plays into Man City’s hands because other players get to really shine.
“You see the likes of Phil Foden really emerging this season and that’s because the spotlight is so on Erling Haaland and they’re so focused with almost doubling up on him, that these other players will get those chances where there’s extra space available when Erling Haaland has taken them away as well.
“The humbleness is a big part, I love it, I do. One of the best players in the world, one of the most lethal finishers in the world as well and still so humble.
“You see him walking off the pitch with Pep and Pep is still giving him pointers but he’s taking it all on board.
“There’s a lot of players in that situation where their egos would get in the way and say I know what I’m doing, I’m one of the top scorers in the Premier League, I’m fine.
“No, he’s listening to every single word and you know that he’ll put it into action at some point in the future as well.”
Haaland does more than just score goals for City
In the Premier League, the 23-year-old has scored 25 goals in 28 games, making him the current top scorer in the division and in with a chance of winning a consecutive Golden Boot.
Even though Haaland has been criticised for his general play at times this season, the fact that Foster has acknowledged what the Norwegian offers his side by just being on the pitch and not in possession should make it clearer to others that the 23-year-old offers more than just putting the ball in the back of the net.
