Ohio State QB Will Howard has fifth-best post-spring Heisman Trophy odds

It’s no surprise Ohio State hasn’t named a starting quarterback yet. Head coach Ryan Day likes to get the most out of his quarterback competitions. Last year’s even trickled into the regular season.

The Buckeyes believe they have a starting quarterback. They just haven’t decided who it will be. That, once again, hasn’t stopped the sportsbooks from anointing one with high Heisman Trophy odds. DraftKings released its post-spring Heisman odds, and Kansas State grad transfer Will Howard is fifth with +1500 odds.

Howard transferred to Ohio State back in January and is competing in a crowded Buckeyes quarterback room for the QB1 role. Redshirt sophomore Devin Brown has been in the system the longest of the five scholarship quarterbacks and made his first career start, albeit a short-lived start, in last year’s Cotton Bowl. Brown currently has +8000 Heisman odds.

Interestingly enough, true freshman Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin is higher on the board with +5000 odds. Sayin transferred in after a few weeks at Alabama, and after the retirement of legendary head coach Nick Saban. The On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 2 quarterback in the 2024 class, Sayin turned heads in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center this spring and, according to Day, is “in the mix” for that coveted starting quarterback job.

So that’s three Buckeyes quarterbacks with top-35 Heisman odds after spring ball.

Here’s a rundown of the players with the 10-highest post-spring Heisman odds, per DraftKings:

T-1. Georgia QB Carson Beck (+900)
T-1. Texas QB Quinn Ewers (+900)
3. Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel (+1000)
4. Alabama QB Jalen Milroe (+1400)
5. Ohio State QB Will Howard (+1500)
6. Ole Miss QB Jaxon Dart (+1800)
T-7. LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (+2000)
T-7. Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava (+2000)
9. Miami QB Cam Ward (+2500)
T-10. Kansas State QB Avery Johnson (+3000)
T-10. Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold (+3000)
T-10. Notre Dame QB Riley Leonard (+3000)
T-10. Florida State QB D.J. Uiagalelei (+3000)
T-10. Arizona QB Noah Fifita (+3000)

Here’s a rundown of the Ohio State players with post-spring Heisman odds, per DraftKings:

RB Quinshon Judkins (+7500)
QB Devin Brown (+8000)
RB TreVeyon Henderson (+8000)

Progress Report: Evaluating Ohio State linebackers after spring practice

Lettermen Row’s “Progress Report” series continues with a look inside the Ohio State linebacker room. The Buckeyes are replacing both of their starting linebackers from the last two seasons, Tommy Eichenberg and Steele Chambers.

Luckily, the Buckeyes had another “quarterback” of the defense in the fold. That’s fifth-year linebacker Cody Simon, who is all but a lock to start the MIKE position.

But who has emerged at the WILL spot? And how deep will new linebackers coach James Laurinaitis run his rotation in the second level?

Those questions are unpacked here.

A-Deck: The latest intel on blue-chip offensive lineman David Sanders

Ohio State is making its run at Charlotte Charlotte (NC) Providence Day School five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. Sanders is the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 2 overall prospect, and No. 1 offensive lineman, in the 2025 class.

The Buckeyes have already hosted him on two visits over the last month, including one last weekend. Ohio State cracked Sanders’ top six — along with Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina — back in March. Now O-Line coach Justin Frye and the Buckeyes are in even better position.

Lettermen Row insider Alex Gleitman has the latest on Sanders and Ohio State. Check it out here.
