Report: Chelsea are now set to reignite interest in 'unbelievable' player, Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan

Chelsea could end up signing a player who Mauricio Pochettino really likes this summer.

Last summer, Chelsea made quite a few signings, including two new goalkeepers.

Robert Sanchez joined from Brighton & Hove Albion, while Djordje Petrovic arrived from MLS side New England Revolution.

It allowed Kepa Arrizabalaga to leave the club, but he is still on the Blues’ books, having only joined Real Madrid on loan.

Despite still being in possession of all three goalkeepers, it looks like Chelsea are already thinking about bringing in another one.

Chelsea could make move for Premier League star this summer

Pochettino and Enzo Fernandez could welcome one of their compatriots to Stamford Bridge in the upcoming transfer window.

According to talkSPORT, after being reluctant to spend big on him last summer, Chelsea are expected to reignite their interest in Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez.

The same outlet has also claimed that Pochettino is a big admirer of the former Arsenal man.

It would be interesting to see what happens with Sanchez and Petrovic if Martinez arrives in west London.

Kepa’s career at Chelsea already looks over following his loan move to Real Madrid.

Should Chelsea revive their interest in Emiliano Martinez?

As already mentioned, Chelsea already have Sanchez and Petrovic.

However, if Pochettino genuinely feels that he needs a new goalkeeper to be successful next season, then yes. Martinez is one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League.

Last term, for example, the 31-year-old had a 74.2% save percentage, the fifth highest in the division (FBref).

“He is unbelievable, isn’t he?”, former Aston Villa goalkeeper Nigel Spink recently said when speaking about Martinez.

Sanchez and Petrovic have not underwhelmed to the point where signing a new No.1 has to be a priority for Chelsea. But Martinez is so good that if an opportunity to bring him in arises, the Blues should probably at least consider it. And based on what is being reported, it looks like they would.
