Bishop’s Stortford hope to announce new manager next week despite former Sittingbourne boss Ryan Maxwell saying he has got the job

Bishop’s Stortford have not yet finalised their new manager - despite somebody saying they had got the job earlier this week.

The Blues are looking for a new boss after majority shareholder Steve Smith stepped down from the role at the end of the season.

And former Braintree Town manager Ryan Maxwell said he was taking charge at the RDA Stadium in an interview on Sittingbourne’s website following his resignation from the Kent club at the weekend.

But Stortford chairman Ian Kettridge has said they are aiming to wrap up their search soon and make an official announcement next week.

“The board have interviewed a number of outstanding candidates for the position of first-team manager in recent weeks,” said Kettridge.

“We are hoping to conclude this process shortly and look forward to being in a position to announce the new manager of Bishop’s Stortford Football Club early next week.”

Maxwell, who had a spell on loan with the Blues in 2006 during his playing days and lives near Stansted Airport, resigned as manager of Pitching In Isthmian League, South East Division side Sittingbourne on Saturday.

In an audio interview on the Brickies’ website, the 39-year-old Northern Irishman said it was a very tough decision to leave the Kent club but that family life and a long commute to Sittingbourne had been some of the factors behind his decision.

When asked what was next for Ryan Maxwell, he said: “We’re going to be plying our trade at Bishop’s Stortford Football Club. We live just down the road and have done for a few years.

“That’s where I’m going to be managing next season, at Bishop’s Stortford, and I would absolutely love nothing more than maybe a pre-season friendly with the Brickies, that’s for sure.”
