'A lot of indictments': Stormy Daniels turns tables on Trump lawyer's 'dumb' question

Former President Donald Trump's hush money trial attorney asked adult film Stormy Daniels a question which one legal expert described as "dumb, dumb dumb" – and it sent her rushing and failing to cover her tracks.

Necheles peppered Daniels with many questions Thursday during a cross-examination in the Manhattan criminal courtroom where Trump stands accused of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments ahead of the 2016 presidential election.

"You understand that in this case, Trump is charged with a crime for how a payment was labeled?" Necheles asked.

When Daniels replied she understood no such thing, Necheles snapped, "Even though you've tweeted about him being indicted, you don't understand?"

Daniels was ready with her answer: “There are a lot of indictments."

Laughter erupted in a courtroom down the hall where hordes of reporters and the public watched the exchange on a television monitor.

The press had gathered to observe one of four criminal cases facing the former president, who has also pleaded not guilty to election interference-related charges in Georgia and Washington D.C. as well as Espionage Act violations in Florida.

That led Necheles to cry out, "Objection!" and demanded the reply be stricken from the record.

Justice Juan Merchan ordered her objection overruled.

This exchange prompted national security attorney and MSNBC commentator Bradley Moss to take to social media to share his view.

"Dumb dumb dumb question," he wrote.

His followers agreed.

"I nearly did a spit take," replied X user Kat Packer. Added X user Clayfoot, "Is it too late for Ms Daniels to pursue a career in law?"
