Liverpool have a 'gifted footballer' who's one of the best in the league, he's about to be furious - opinion

Liverpool’s gifted footballer should be furious about the Premier League’s recent decision.

There are now just two more matches left to play in the Premier League. This is very much the final stages of the campaign and naturally as we near the end, this is a time for reflection.

Liverpool have had a solid campaign. They have probably exceeded expectations at the start of the season, when few would have envisaged Jurgen Klopp’s Reds going so far.

Ultimately, the season ended in disappointment. But there is plenty to be optimistic about. Liverpool have an exciting future ahead.

The one thing Harvey Elliott should be furious about

Harvey Elliott has been one of Liverpool’s best players towards the end of the campaign. He’s enjoyed his best and most complete season in his senior career so far, and was evendescribed as a ‘technically gifted’ footballer by Jermaine Defoe.

Having only turned 21-years-old back in March, he’s still very young with a bright future ahead of him as one of the best young players in the Premier League.

Yet despite his good form, Elliott hasn’t quite received the acclaim or the hype that Kobbie Mainoo has gotten for example. The Manchester United midfielder got a call-up to the England senior squad before Elliott.

And now he’s also been nominated to the Premier League Young Player of the season award as well, while Elliott has been omitted.

Not only is that a ridiculous decision, considering Mainoo has been playing for a really poor Manchester United side, while Elliott has been instrumental in a strong Liverpool team, but it also makes no sense.

Why Harvey Elliott is better than Kobbie Mainoo

Elliott has played in a total of 32 games in compared to Mainoo, who has featured in just 21 matches so far in the Premier League this season.

On top of that, Elliott also has seven goal contributions in comparison to Mainoo’s mere three.

By every metric, Elliott is simply the better player and nominating Mainoo over him makes absolutely zero sense.

It’s time Elliott received some acclaim as well.
