'Arsenal are in negotiations': Romano says Gunners now in contract talks with another top talent after Jorginho

On Thursday, Arsenal announced that Jorginho has signed a contract extension at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners midfielder is reported to have put pen to paper on a one-year extension with the north Londoners.

According to The Guardian, Jorginho turned down the prospect of a return to Serie A to extend his stint at Arsenal.

The Gunners have done very well in recent months with regards to tying their players down to either new contracts or extensions.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba, Martin Odegaard and Ben White have all signed fresh long-term deals in recent times.

Arsenal also convinced academy star Ethan Nwaneri to sign his first professional contract at the Emirates Stadium earlier this year.

Now, the Gunners are reportedly trying to do the same with Chido Obi-Martin, who has made waves at Hale End in recent months.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on how Arsenal are faring in negotiations over the young forward.

Romano has taken to X to claim that Arsenal are now in negotiations with Obi-Martin’s new agents Elite Project Group.

The 16-year-old is now with the same agency as Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho and Folarin Balogun, added the transfer insider.

Romano then concluded by saying Arsenal are still pushing to agree on contract terms with Obi-Martin.

Who is Arsenal academy player Chido Obi Martin?

Obi-Martin was born in 2007 in Glostrup on the outskirts of Copenhagen, and moved to the United Kingdom as a teenager, joining Arsenal in 2022 aged 14.

He has quickly risen through the ranks at Hale End and has been making waves thanks to his incredible goal tally at Under-18 level.

As per Transfermarkt, Obi-Martin has a staggering 29 goals and two assists from just 17 outings in the U18 Premier League this term.

Back in November, the teenager scored an outstanding 10 goals for Arsenal’s Under-16s in a 14-3 win over Liverpool’s U16s.

Obi-Martin has played for both England and Denmark’s national teams at youth level, and is also eligible to represent Nigeria. At present, he’s playing for the Danish Under-17s.

Arsenal youth team expert Jeorge Bird has described the youngster as a “tall forward”, a “skilful player” and “one of the most exciting players in the Arsenal academy”.

The Gunners will be hoping that Obi-Martin commits his future to the club, as he really looks like he could be generational.
