Trump tells MTG to cool it: 'Republicans have to be fighting Democrat lunatics'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene

Former President Donald Trump took a break from his criminal hush money trial to tell Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to cool it.

Trump posted on Truth Social Thursday afternoon a video statement calling on Greene (R-GA) to give up on her "majority of one" quest to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson.

"Republicans have to be fighting the radical left Democrats, lunatics, I call them, and all the damage they have done to our country," Trump said. "With the majority of one, shortly growing to three or four, we hope, we're not in a position of voting on a motion to vacate.

"At some point, we may very well be, but this is not the time."

Trump hedged his approbation for Greene's much-aligned effort to oust Johnson with a bland compliment directed at the Louisiana lawmaker.

"Mike Johnson is a good man, a very good man, he's trying very hard," Trump said. "But I also wish certain things were done over the last period of two or three months."

Trump did not elucidate what action he wished Johnson had taken. And his tempered flattery of the House speaker stood in stark contrast to the praise Trump heaped on Greene.

"I absolutely love Marjorie Taylor Greene," Trump declared. "She’s got spirit, she’s got Fight, she's got spunk and I believe she’ll be around, and on our side, for a long time to come."

Trump also wedged in a zinger directed at Democrats and the "fake news media" he blamed for reports of disfunction in the House of Representatives as he requested Republicans table Greene's vacate motion.

"If we show disunity, which will be portrayed as chaos by the Democrats and the fake news media, it will negatively effect everything," Trump said. "This is not the time to go after everybody."
