Report: Arteta remains a fan of Arsenal player apparently looking to leave; Gunners will listen to summer bids

Mikel Arteta remains a fan of Thomas Partey despite Arsenal being willing to listen to offers for the midfielder during the summer transfer window.

Thomas Partey has played a peripheral role in Arsenal’s Premier League title push this season, with the Ghanaian missing much of the campaign due to injury.

Partey has been back in the fold in recent weeks, but it seems that he could be approaching his final couple of games as an Arsenal player.

Football London reports that Partey’s contract expires at the end of next season and Arsenal are unlikely to offer the 30-year-old a new deal at the Emirates.

Interestingly, the report adds that Mikel Arteta remains a fan of Partey, so him staying next year cannot be ruled out just yet.

Arsenal would be wise to cash in

It would arguably be best for all parties if Arsenal could find a buyer for Partey this summer, given his contract situation.

When he has been available, he has been excellent, and his arrival was a real statement for Arteta given that he established as one of the better holding midfielders around during his time with Atletico Madrid.

But relying on Partey to be available has proved to be difficult, with the midfielder set to fall short of making 25 league appearances in a single season for the third time in four years in North London.

If they are offered a substantial fee this summer, it surely makes most sense for Arsenal to cash in on Partey and get someone else to rival Jorginho next season.

Arteta would be wise to let him move on if the right bid comes in over the coming months, despite his admiration for the player.
