Conservative George Conway says he 'smiled' at Trump at trial — and 'it got on his nerves'

Conservative attorney and noted Donald Trump critic is celebrating Thursday after apparently getting under the former president's skin.

Conway, who has previously asserted that Trump is "not a well man," has been following Trump's criminal trial closely and appearing in court. In that case, Trump faces 34 felony charges stemming from an alleged hush money cover-up scheme involving payments to an adult film star Trump purportedly had an affair with.

Conway confirmed later that he had "smiled" at the former president while in the court.

"I smiled again at him in the courtroom today," the lawyer said Thursday. "And apparently it got on his nerves!"

Conway was citing the fact that Trump, apparently during breaks at court, appeared to take a shot at Conway, Trump's former supporter.

"Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday to post tearful photos of George Conway wearing a MAGA hat at his 2016 victory party," Mediaite reported. "Amid his hush money criminal trial in New York City, the Republican nominee took time out of his day to hit back at Conway, a former ally turned critic, by posting pictures of him celebrating Trump’s ascension to the presidency."

"If the defendant’s point is that I should be embarrassed that I supported him in 2016, he’s right and I am! For once the quadruply-indicted, doubly-impeached, and already-adjudicated fraudster and rapist speaks the truth!" Conway then added. "And if I was able, even for just a moment, to take the defendant’s mind off the god-awful cross he made Susan Necheles do on Stormy this morning, he should be thanking me."

Conway also added:

"I do have to add and confess there is nothing I could buy or rent for $130K that would exceed the fun I’m having following this trial for free."
