Top three things to do in Newbury town centre this weekend

There is plenty going on this week in West Berkshire, from food, fun and a family disco.

But here are our three top picks of things to do at the weekend.

Newbury town centre

And they’re all happening right in Newbury town centre.

‘Have your Say’

It can often feel difficult to make your concerns heard - with the hectic working week or not knowing where to go or who to speak to.

But there will be a chance to stop and have a proper chat with officers from Thames Valley Police on Saturday.

The Newbury Neighbourhood Policing Team will be outside Marks & Spencer on Northbrook Street on Saturday, May 12 between 10am - 12pm.

TVP said: “Come along to discuss any crime related issues you may have happening in your community that are causing you concern.

“The team will also be offering crime prevention advice.”

Mayor Making

A new mayor will be chosen on Sunday. The Newbury mayor making ceremony is an annual tradition followed by a civic procession and civic service.

The ceremony itself is a closed gig but there will be a chance to catch the new red-robed man or woman afterward.

The civic procession will begin at 11.45am from the Corn Exchange and they will make their way to St Nicolas Church for the service, commencing at noon.

There will also be a reception at St Nicolas Church Hall from 12.45pm.

Vegan treats

The Newbury Vegan Market is returning to the town centre on Sunday.

It will be open morning and afternoon as the market place becomes home to a wide range of vegan vendors.

This includes delicious vegan street food, tasty baked goods and sweet treats, ethical fashion brands, cruelty-free cosmetics, handmade arts and crafts, artisan items as well as local and national charities and outreach stalls.

There should be something for everyone to enjoy, from vegans and vegetarian to flexitarians, pescatarians, omnivores or anybody who fancies trying something new.

The event falls between 10am - 3pm and entry is free.
