In South Notts League Division D, Farndon CC enjoyed a winning start to their 2024 season as they comfortably beat Attenborough Third XI.
The First XI took 16 points from a 72-run home victory.
The hosts lost the toss and were put into bat but were given a strong start by openers Martyn Hill, who struck a rapid 40 from 25 balls, and Jason Lam (23).
Farndon slipped to 77-3 when Lam fell, but a 98-run stand for the fourth wicket between Sam Brown (39 not out) and a belligerent 77 from Dan Collington guided them to 208-6 from their 45-over allocation.
Collington was particularly hard on the Attenborough attack, clubbing seven sixes and five fours in a blistering 45-ball knock.
The visitors fell well behind the required run rate after some tight bowling from Rhiannon Knowling-Davies (0-32 from 12 overs), Lam (0-3 from four) and Joss Martin (0-11 from seven).
John Esam (1-37) made the first breakthrough, and Alex Youngman (2-28) took the other wickets to fall as Attenborough were restricted to 136-3 from their 45 overs.
On Saturday, Farndon travel to Basford Mill.

Southwell made a solid start to their chase of 181, but fell 22 runs short.
The visitors won the toss and made a good start to their innings before Will Ashworth and Mark Bowie finally removed openers Alex Johnson (38) and Ben Crouch (22).
Matt Clarke (3-38) came on at first change and bowled skipper Tommy Duffy (31) before picking up two more cheap wickets.
Josh Evans joined the party, also chipping in with three wickets before Kimberley recovered to post 180-8 from their 45 overs.
Tom Clarke (40 from 108 balls) and captain Jonathan Butler (21 from 58) laid Southwell a good platform against economical bowling.
Sam Barber struck three fours in a 37-ball knock of 23, but needing to up the rate, wickets then fell at regular intervals as the hosts closed on 158-9.
The pick of the Attenborough attack was Ewan Towle with 4-27.
Next up for Southwell is an away trip to face newly-promoted Clifton Seconds.
