Man City could land ideal replacement for exit-linked player by signing ‘excellent’ target - opinion

Manchester City could find an ideal replacement for someone who has been mentioned with a move away from the club this summer by signing one of their reported transfer targets.

Previous transfer windows have seen lots of players make moves in and out of the Manchester club, either on loan deals, permanent moves or as free agents.

Even though the Citizens still have some vital games left to play before the season officially ends, the upcoming summer transfer window could once again see a lot of activity take place.

In fact, over the past few months, one figure in Pep Guardiola’s ranks has had some speculation raised about his future at the Etihad Stadium and whether this season could be his last.

If that does end up being the case, we feel that the club may have already identified an ideal replacement.

Last month, it was reported that Stefan Ortega had reached an impasse with City over a new contract, with discussions having been ongoing for over six months.

It was also claimed that there are differences over the financial terms and length of the proposed deal, with the German also wanting the opportunity to be a first-choice goalkeeper at the highest level possible.

If the 31-year-old were to leave the Manchester club this summer in an effort to find regular game time elsewhere, we feel that Lazio goalkeeper, Christos Mandas, who has been linked with a move to City recently, could be an ideal replacement for Ortega.

Mandas could be a suitable replacement for Ortega

At the age of 22, the Greek shot-stopper, who has been called “excellent” by former Lazio striker Fabrizio Ravanelli, has made 11 appearances for Lazio since arriving last summer.

Across those 11 games, Mandas has conceded nine goals but kept five clean sheets.

With eight Serie A appearances under his belt, the goalkeeper has faced 26 shots on target and saved 20 of them, leaving him with a save percentage of 76.9%.

In comparison, with seven Premier League appearances to his name this season, Ortega has saved 16 of the 22 shots on target he’s faced, giving him a save percentage of 72.7%.

This shows that if the German were to leave City this summer, we think that Mandas could be an ideal figure to come in and fight for the number one spot in the team.
