Italian film diva Gina Lollobrigida's treasures to be sold at auction

Furniture, artwork, jewellery and memorabilia belonging to late Italian film diva Gina Lollobrigida will be sold at auction in Genoa on May 28 and 29.

Among the items up for sale are a watch that Lollobrigida once received as a gift from Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.

The actress, who later also made a career as a photographer, died in January 2023 at the age of 95.

The pieces on offer also include the camera that Lollobrigida loved to use to take portrait photos. She used it to photograph subjects including actor Paul Newman, painter Salvador Dali and diplomat Henry Kissinger.

She also had the camera with her on a visit to Cuba when she photographed Castro, who was close to her in age.

Castro, in turn, once brought her a digital wristwatch with the inscription "For Gina with admiration." During a visit to Rome, he said: "I came to see the Pope and Lollo."

In addition to various pieces of jewellery, the auction will also feature a monumental Sicilian wooden cabinet inlaid with coral and tortoiseshell, a pair of swords from the film "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World," garden stools made of Chinese porcelain, Russian icons and sculptures of Tibetan gods.

For decades, the Lollobrigida was one of world's most famous actresses. Her most important films include "Trapeze," "Fanfan la Tulipe" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."
