A 25-year-old Trump boast just came back to haunt him in court

Prosecutors in Donald Trump's hush money trial want to admit an interview from 25 years ago where his typical bragging may come back to bite him.

The old interview with Larry King shows Trump talking about campaign finance law.

"Nobody knows more about campaign finance than I do," Trump said in 1999.

Trump is accused of falsifying business records to conceal a hush money payment to an adult film star, alleging they'd had a one-night stand when Trump's wife was recovering from giving birth to their son.

Among the things, he's accused of violating are federal campaign finance laws that mandate disclosure of funds used for political purposes. The prosecutors argue that the hush money paid to Stormy Daniels was a political expenditure because he was attempting to hide the story from the voters after the "Access Hollywood" tape was revealed.

The defense objected, saying that laws have changed considerably since 1999, but the prosecutors countered by arguing that not much has changed.

Lawfare's Anna Bower paraphrased the prosecutors, saying, "The relevant corporate contribution limits pertinent to this case were enacted in 1907. So Trump saying to King that 'nobody knows more about campaign finance than I do...' in 1999 is relevant."
