‘We spoke’: Kyle Walker shares what the Man City players said about winning another Treble this season

Kyle Walker has shared what the Manchester City players said about aiming to win another Treble this season.

The right-back played a big role in seeing the Manchester club win the Premier League, FA Cup and their first Champions League last season.

Across all competitions, the 33-year-old appeared in 39 games, including the FA Cup final against Manchester United and the Champions League semi-final games against Real Madrid.

This time around, the Blues are in the race to win another Premier League title and beat United again in the FA Cup final.

Having been knocked out of the Champions League in the quarter-final stage by Carlo Ancelotti’s side, the City captain has been sharing some insight into how his teammates viewed the possibility of winning a consecutive Treble this term.

Speaking in a recent interview with Joleon Lescott, which was shared on the TNT Sports YouTube channel, Walker said this when asked if the aim for this season was to win a consecutive Treble and if that was a realistic aim for the City players.

He said: “We wanted to replicate it. Was it a realistic goal? Probably not. Because to go and do a Treble, not many teams do it. To then go and do it back-to-back would have been something special.

“We did [speak about it] at the start of the season because you look back and you think okay, where’s your motivation going to come from?

“Of completing such a high of last season, you need to find something again. A lot of the lads, we spoke and we said why don’t we try and do it again?

“It wasn’t to be but to have four Premier Leagues in a row now would be something special and an FA Cup, it’s still a double off the back of winning the SuperCup, the Club World Cup plus these two.

“We’re hopeful, the destiny is in our hands now and hopefully we can go and do it.”

City players were right to target another Treble

Having completed such a big achievement last year, we feel that it’s understandable that the City players wanted to head into this season with the aim of making even more history and regaining their three titles.

Despite the disappointment in the Champions League, if the Blues were to become the first side to win a fourth Premier League title in a row and then go on to beat United in the FA Cup final again, this would undeniably be a very successful outcome for the Manchester club.
