Russia is increasing its military presence in the border areas of the Siversk direction, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The department specified that along the Siversk direction, the enemy is increasing its military presence in border areas.

Additionally, the occupiers are conducting reconnaissance activities, shelling populated areas from Russian territory, and increasing the density of mine-explosive barriers along the Ukrainian state border.

In the context of this direction, the General Staff clarified that over 10 populated areas, including Karpovychi and Progress in the Chernihiv region, and Chernatske, Yastrubshchyna, and Ulanove in the Sumy region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.

Attempted Russian advance in the Kharkiv region

For a while, several Western media outlets reported that Russian forces were planning a military operation towards Kharkiv. However, the Ukrainian authorities asserted that the occupiers would not succeed, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces would repel them.

Early this morning, the occupiers attempted to break through the defense of Ukrainian forces in the northern part of the Kharkiv region, with the city of Vovchansk coming under heavy shelling.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the fact of Russian offensive actions in that area and discussed the issue with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
