Barcelona intend to change formation next season, one player could leave as a result

Barcelona will be aiming to bounce back from a difficult campaign next season, but transfers will not be easy this summer.

The Blaugrana will likely need to make big sales in order to facilitate spending within the salary cap, and it now appears that Xavi will want to change formation next season.

His side have played in a variety of shapes, but it now appears that a return to the standard Barcelona 4-3-3, with inverted wingers, will now take place.

This change could mean that Brazil International Raphinha is sold, which could make way for the arrival of a more natural left-winger.

Raphinha could leave Barcelona this summer

The former Leeds United star has been inconsistent since his arrival at Barcelona, and the emergence of teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has meant that he faces less game time in his natural position on the right-wing.

SPORT have now reported that Raphinha could end up leaving, with Yamal on the right wing, and Barcelona interested in Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams to play on the left.

The 21-year-old is of interest to a lot of clubs this summer, but if Barcelona can pull off an unlikely deal, it would allow one of their more sellable assets in Raphinha to depart for a potentially big fee.

A deal for Nico Williams will be difficult given the finances involved, but this should not deter Xavi from his plans to return Barcelona to a natural formation, rather than shoehorning Raphinha in on the left-wing.

Yamal on the right, with a right-footed winger who can cut inside on the left, will be the best shape for Barcelona, and even if that inside forward is not Nico Williams, it is clear that Raphinha is not the answer.

The Brazilian has impressed at times, but has overall been an underwhelming addition, and he should be sold whilst his value is high and whilst the finances gained would make a huge impact on the summer transfer plans.
