World leaders should make efforts to end the Russian war in Ukraine, stated Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.

“The tragedy in Ukraine, the Russian war - whether it is shelling or bombing - during every visit to Ukraine I see tragedies of people. I talked to victims of sexual violence, to parents of children who were taken to Russia. I feel the whole tragedy. It must be stopped. The whole civilized world must take part in this,” Čaputová said.

According to her, Slovakia sees Ukraine as a sovereign state that will choose its own way.

“Only such a peace is acceptable. We really appreciate your bravery. You are defending not only your own country but also the principles on which our security is based,” she said.

Slovakia's position on the war in Ukraine

Today, on May 10, the President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová arrived in Kyiv on a farewell visit.

Last year, Slovakia held parliamentary elections. Robert Fico and the Social Democrats came to power in the country. Fico said that Slovakia would stop military aid to Ukraine and prevent it from joining NATO.
