Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. joined Kearny Mayor Carol Jean Doyle and town officials Friday morning to announce nearly $1 million in federal funding to replace lead pipes.
“Every single Garden Stater and American has a God-given right to clean water. If our government cannot provide safe, clean drinking water then it is no government at all,” said Pascrell, a Democrat whose Ninth District includes part of Kearny and Secaucus.
“This federal funding my office secured will help Kearny replace ancient lead pipes and secure the city’s drinking water supply. I am damn proud to have delivered this money for Mayor Doyle, the council, and our Kearny residents.”
The $959,752 award is part of $15 billion the federal government is distributing to help states replace their lead water lines.
Two years ago Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation to replace every lead water line in the state.
“Congressman Pascrell is true to his word. He said he would include the Town of Kearny for lead pipe replacement funding and today he came in person to fulfill his promise,” Doyle said. “Thank you, Congressman for being a man of your word, the Town of Kearny is very appreciative.”
In this year’s government funding process, Pascrell has secured $17,624,644 for 17 separate community projects throughout the Ninth District.
