In the Kharkiv region, defensive battles are ongoing against attempts by the Russian army to conduct offensive operations and advance into the depths of Ukrainian territory, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The General Staff reported that countermeasures are underway in the directions of the settlements of Lyptsi and Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region. The Russian army is using infantry and equipment in their offensive actions.

Fighting is also currently taking place for settlements near the border that were effectively in a grey zone - Strilecha, Pylne, and Borysivka, as well as in the area of Olinikove and Ohirtseve.

The General Staff emphasizes that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are operating on prepared defensive lines. Fire impact is being carried out. The task is to thwart the enemy's offensive and destroy the Russian army which has entrenched itself in our defense.

"The decisions to strengthen our combat units will be implemented," the statement said.

Russian advance in the Kharkiv region

During the night of May 10, Russian forces in the Kharkiv region attempted to break through the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defense. In the Vovchansk direction, the enemy carried out air strikes using guided aviation bombs. The attack was repulsed, and fighting is ongoing.

The evacuation of residents from border settlements has begun.

The military-political leadership currently rules out a large-scale enemy offensive on Kharkiv.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, forces are being reinforced in the Kharkiv direction.
