Meghan Markle says she married Prince Harry because 'he speaks the truth'

Meghan Markle has claimed she married Prince Harry because he "speaks the truth".

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were invited by Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, to show them how the country is changing and saving veterans' lives through sport in collaboration with the Invictus Games.

During the couple's first day in Nigeria as part of their three-day tour, Meghan took the opportunity to praise her husband.

Harry was speaking to school pupils at Wuse Lightway Academy - which is supported by their Archewell Foundation - about mental health.

He said: "If you see your friend in your class not smiling, what are you going to do?

"Are you going to check in on them? Are you going to ask them if they're okay? Because it's okay not to be okay."

He also referred to people who have "lost a loved one in your family and you don't know who to turn to or who to speak to".

The duke then handed the microphone to his wife and she took the opportunity to praise him.

She exclaimed: "Do you see why I married him? He's so smart. And so inspiring because he speaks the truth."

The duchess then encouraged students to "just be honest with each other".

She added: "As I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well. So it is a complete honour to have our first visit to Nigeria, be here with all of you.

"We believe in all of you, we believe in your futures, we believe in your ability to continue telling your stories and to just be honest with each other.

"There is no need to suffer in silence. Just make sure that you're taking care of yourselves."

The Duke of Sussex also took the opportunity to praise his wife, just like she had done for him.

Meghan wrote an personal message in the visitor's book which read: "With gratitude for the support of the Invictus community. And for welcoming me home".

Prince Harry praised his wife's "beautiful handwriting" and added to the visitor's book himself: "Thank you for welcoming us to your beautiful country together, we will heal our troops."
