The US State Department has approved the urgent sale of three HIMARS rocket artillery systems to Ukraine for approximately $30 million, according to AP.
It is noted that these are the same three systems to be financed by the German government.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted that the extraordinary situation in Ukraine requires an immediate sale. The systems will come from the US Army's stockpiles.
New aid package from the US
Yesterday, May 10, the US announced a new $400 million arms package for Ukraine. Ukraine will receive rockets for Patriot and NASAMS, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, ammunition for HIMARS and artillery, equipment, and more.
Germany and HIMARS for Ukraine
On May 9, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that his country, together with the US, would provide Ukraine with additional HIMARS rocket artillery systems. Pistorius stated that the systems are part of the inventory of other Western armed forces and will be paid for by Germany.
