On Tuesday, May 14, the UN Security Council will discuss the situation in Ukraine, which has escalated due to Russia's full-scale invasion, according to Ukrinform.

The main issue of the meeting will be the intensification of Russia's shelling of Ukrainian civilian infrastructure in recent weeks, as reported by the agency's correspondent in the Security Council Secretariat.

Latest Russian shelling targeted the energy infrastructure

Since the beginning of the year, Russia has resumed mass air strikes on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, primarily targeting the energy sector.

The latest such attack occurred overnight on May 8. The Russian army launched 55 rockets and 21 UAVs on Ukrainian territory. 59 aerial targets were destroyed by air defense forces.

As a result of the attack, objects of generation and transmission of electricity were damaged in six regions and three thermal power plants.

Ukrainian National Power Company Ukrenergo has implemented emergency power cuts for businesses. If the deficit in the energy system increases, emergency shutdowns will also be introduced for residential consumers.

The Institute for the Study of War believes that Russia is trying to destroy Ukraine's energy system.
