Day 3 of the 2024 Big 12 Tournament is in the books after Friday evening. And fans weren’t exactly dealt any surprises. As a matter of fact, far from it. There were two thorough beatdowns in the Big 12 Tournament Semifinals. Two powerhouse programs will clash for the final time on Saturday for the Big 12 Tournament crown, before moving on to the SEC next season. Both Texas and Oklahoma took care of business and easily whipped their opponents on Friday in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In the first game of the night, the Oklahoma Sooners throttled the BYU Cougars with a score of 13-2. Sooners freshman Ella Parker got the party started with a solo shot in the first inning. She finished the day with three RBIs and was one of the key contributors for OU. Another Sooners freshman, Kasidi Pickering also racked up three RBIs, combining for six runs between them.
OU sophomore left-hander Kierston Deal was spectacular, matching the offense with some impressive pitching. She fell just one out short of her second no-hitter. Deal finished with four strikeouts, allowing just two runs, two hits, and throwing in two walks in five innings of work. Oklahoma run-ruled the Cougars in just five innings. They made quick work of BYU, advancing to their highly anticipated 2024 Big 12 Championship matchup with the Texas Longhorns.
In the second game of the night, the Texas offense absolutely shelled the Baylor Bears‘ pitching staff. The Longhorns’ bats got scorching hot early and put the game out of reach. Texas had two six-run innings out of the gates, forcing Baylor to make three pitching changes. The Longhorns hit three home runs during the stretch.
By then, the game was completely out of reach for the Bears. Baylor managed to tack on three runs in the fifth inning, but the Longhorns cruised to a run-rule victory in just five innings of work. It was basically a home run derby on Friday, as they blasted five home runs in the blowout. And Texas punched their tickets to their highly anticipated rivalry game with the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday. This one for a 2024 Big 12 Tournament title.
