Builders working on a house in Fakenham discovered a cannabis farm inside of a neighbour’s loft.
That loft belonged to Steven Taylor, 51, who appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted to producing a class B drug.
Prosecutor Lesla Small said that the discovery was made by the builders on March 30 last year on The Glebe in Fakenham, when they working on a neighbour’s property and could see directly into the loft.
They reported seeing a number of cannabis plants and items associated with growing the class B drug and called the police.
Officers arrived at the house and Taylor admitted to police that he had been growing it and showed them up to the loft.
A total of 35 cannabis plants were growing in the loft and were around 12 inches tall.
In mitigation, Ralph Gillham said that Taylor had suffered from mental health issues since his partner died.
“He decided to grow the cannabis because he was at a loss of what to do,” said Mr Gillham.
“He was grieving and made a very poor choice.”
He added: “The plants were small, they hadn’t reached maturity. He said he became involved through naivety.”
Before magistrates sentence him, the bench requested that an all-options presentence report should be carried out by the probation service - meaning Taylor is at risk of going to prison.
He will return to court on June 27 and was released on unconditional bail.
