Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Yusei Kikuchi took his third loss of the season after allowing two runs in eight innings against the Minnesota Twins on Friday.
Kikuchi (2-3) left with a 2-1 deficit at Rogers Centre, where the Twins won 3-2 after both teams scored one run each in the ninth inning.
Carlos Santana hit a solo home run for the Twins to break a 1-all tie in the fifth.
Kikuchi held the visitors to four hits while walking none and striking out three in his longest outing of the season.
"It's a disappointing result," the 32-year-old said. "Yet I believe I can be confident that I get to pitch deeper into the game, the seventh or eighth, in an important stretch like this."
The Blue Jays play three games against the Twins and three more against the Baltimore Orioles through Wednesday.
At Petco Park, Shohei Ohtani had two of the Los Angeles Dodgers' four hits in a 2-1 loss to the San Diego Padres.
Luis Arraez delivered a walk-off single after a pitching duel between Tyler Glasnow and Michael King, snapping the Dodgers' winning streak at seven games.
