HITC understands that Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid are finalising the details of his move to the Spanish capital and when the announcement of his arrival will be confirmed.
Sources have confirmed to HITC that Mbappe agreed to move to Madrid in January, although the final details have been hammered out in recent months.
Madrid and Mbappe have not wanted to flaunt the impending move too much in-front of PSG – especially whilst they remained in the Champions League and in theory could come up against Real in the final.
However, PSG’s bid for European glory was ended this week by Borussia Dortmund, whilst Real beat Bayern Munich, and now Mbappe himself has officially confirmed that he would be leaving PSG.
Speaking a video revealed via his own social media, Mbappe said on his X account: “I’ve always said that I would speak with you when the time comes.
“It’s my last year at Paris St-Germain. I will not extend and the adventure will come to an end in a few weeks.
“It’s a lot of emotions, many years where I had the chance and the great honour to be a member of the biggest French club, one of the best in the world.
“It allowed me to arrive here, to have my first experience in a club with a lot of pressure, to grow as a player of course, by being alongside some of the best in history, some of the greatest champions.
“It’s hard and I never thought it would be this difficult to announce that. But I think I needed this, a new challenge, after seven years.”
Kylian Mbappe preparing for PSG finale
Mbappe has been with PSG since 2017 when he joined from Monaco in a deal worth more than £150million.
The 25-year-old will feature in his final game for PSG in the final of the Coupe De France on May 25.
Mbappe is hoping to leave PSG in the best manner he can, having announced last summer that he would not be taking up his side of a one-year option which the club had presumed he would.
This caused outrage within the club and Mbappe was dropped and knowing they would then be losing him on a free transfer in 2024 – they then tried to sell him to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Hilal making a world record breaking offer.
But Mbappe rejected the move knowing what he wanted, and that was a move to Madrid – something that he initially rejected in the summer of 2022.
Now two-years on, Mbappe is set to seal his move to Madrid and HITC is told that the move will be confirmed before this summer’s European Championships.
