'A few goals...': Chris Sutton issues score prediction for Aston Villa vs Liverpool on Monday

Aston Villa host Liverpool on Monday night football and Chris Sutton has issued his score prediction for the clash.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa crashed out of the Europa Conference League semi-finals on Thursday night, but it’s fine when the consolation is a shot at Champions League football.

Villa hold a seven-point buffer over fifth-place Tottenham in the race for fourth, meaning Spurs can’t slip up once in their final three games, otherwise, the Villans will finish in the top four.

Emery’s men host Liverpool on Monday night football with the opportunity to end Jurgen Klopp’s reign at the Reds on a low point, though they haven’t won any of their last seven meetings since the memorable 7-2 victory in October 2020.

The Villa boss offered some hope of ending that run by revealing trio; Alex Moreno, Nicolo Zaniolo and Youri Tielemans only have small injuries and could return to the squad against the Reds.

Chris Sutton predicts Aston Villa vs Liverpool

BBC pundit Chris Sutton has issued his prediction for the clash at Villa Park and he expects an entertaining spectacle.

Villa and Liverpool both rank in the top five for goals scored in the Premier League, so it is no surprise to see him issue a prediction of 2-2, which would stop the visitors doing the double in this meeting.

He wrote in his column (BBC Sport): “Aston Villa need one win from their last two games to be sure of fourth spot. I am not sure they will get it here but they probably won’t need it, because Spurs are not going to catch them now.

“I am not convinced by Liverpool either, but they always create chances and there should be a few goals in this one.”

Ollie Watkins can make history vs Liverpool

As Sutton predicted a four-goal flurry in this fixture, the most likely source for Emery is Ollie Watkins, who has an impressive 27 goals in all competitions, including 19 in the Premier League.

The Englishman is one goal away from becoming the first player in the club’s history to score 20 Premier League goals in a single campaign.

Watkins is also aiming to move closer to Gabby Agbonlahor’s record of 73 goals in the competition, currently 14 behind.

Villa may have already secured Champions League qualification by the time they face Liverpool, but if they haven’t, reaching the 20-goal mark is an extra incentive to achieve greatness.

It’s been a magnificent campaign for everyone associated with the club, but in particular for Watkins, who is 10th in the list of strikers for league goals in Europe, with England teammate Harry Kane topping that accolade.
