Real Madrid president plans showdown talks with star duo - report

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is planning to hold talks with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric to decide on their respective futures in the coming weeks, a report claims.

Both Kroos and Modric are out of contract this summer and could walk away from Madrid for nothing at the end of June.

The legendary duo have been on rolling one-year contracts and though they agreed to renewals in May last year, MARCA write they are increasingly unlikely to decide on their next move until closer to the expiration of their current deals.

Madrid have been planning their squad for the 2024/25 season since March and are evaluating the market to decide whether or not they should offer new deals to Kroos and Modric, as well as the terms of such contract offers. The club are also prepared for situations to drastically change after Karim Benzema surprisingly decided to leave for Saudi champions Al Ittihad this time last year.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti would prefer to keep both on if only for the sake of continuity, while their recent form has proven they are still capable of top-level performances even in their thirties.

Madrid have not made any major proposals to either player in recent months and so Perez will soon meet with the two midfielders in order to finalise plans.

Kroos and Modric are not the only Madrid regulars who are on expiring contracts, with Lucas Vazquez and club captain Nacho Fernandez's deals also up this summer.

Though Vazquez is expected to pen fresh terms with Los Blancos, Nacho will leave in search of a new challenge. He has been linked to various clubs around Europe, including Italian champions Inter, as well as teams in Major League Soccer.
