Rangers player ratings v Celtic: 1/10 shocker shouldn't play again, 9/10 deserves better

Rangers took on Celtic with Philippe Clement looking to take his side to the top of the Scottish Premiership table, or at least draw level on points.

The manager had to make do without several key players from his squad with the second half at Ibrox the sort of performance that the Belgian was looking for, unfortunately it was one he didn’t get.

Here are your Rangers player ratings for the visit to Parkhead in what was another frustrating display.

Rangers player ratings v Celtic

Philippe Clement believed that his team could get a result:

Jack Butland – 9

Again, let down by the players in front of him and deserves so much better than what he is currently having to put up with in these games.

Stunning penalty save.

James Tavernier – 4

You would think that the captain would have learned that Daizen Maeda is fast by now.

Switched off for Celtic’s second goal and failed to stop the cross.

Borna Barisic – 4

Gets a bonus point for the cross that led to Rangers goal but failed to make any intervention when Celtic scored their first.

Gave James Forrest far too much space.

Ben Davies – 7

Like Butland, the problems were caused by the players in front of him.

Individually, he had a fine game.

John Souttar – 6

Subbed at half-time but didn’t do much wrong.

John Lundstram – 1

Shouldn’t play for Rangers again, a disgraceful display.

Tom Lawrence – 4

Tried to get on the ball but just couldn’t make anything happen.

Mohamed Diomande – 2

Occasion was simply too big for him.

Fabio Silva – 8

Embarrassed some of his senior teammates with his workrate and determination, was a constant threat on the Rangers left.

Rangers best outfield player.

Cyriel Dessers – 7

Worked hard, deserved his goal but got almost no decent service.

Dujon Sterling – 6

Defended well on the right before dropping into the middle of defence, could have done with him in midfield too.

Substitutes

Ross McCausland – 4

Ineffective in a tough shift, had a great chance to shoot but chose to control it and lost possession.

Got into some great positions but final ball was so poor.

Nicolas Raskin – 6

Showed Lundstram how to work in midfield and apply pressure despite having a man less.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 5

Offered more of a threat going forward but had a couple of scares in defence.

Scott Wright – 6

Arguably, should have been brought on earlier with Rangers sitting in deep.

Kemar Roofe – 5

Not enough time to make an impression.
