Donald Trump hits back at claims he's considering Nikki Haley for VP

Former US president Donald Trump and his one-time ambassador Nikki Haley have amped up their campaign rhetoric

Donald Trump on Saturday hit back at claims he was considering his primary foe Nikki Haley as his running mate.

The former president responded to a report Saturday that she would be in the running for the vice president slot — on the condition that she could work to free him if he's imprisoned and would help pay his legal debts.

The claims reportedly came from insiders in his campaign.

But later Saturday, he posted on his Truth Social platform, "Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well!"

Haley is seen by many as a big problem for Trump because a large portion of Republican voters continue to support her, despite her quitting the campaign to become the GOP presidential nominee in March.

Last week, she won 20% of the ballot in the Indiana primary.

Trump took bitter aim at her as she became the last opponent standing in nominee contest, taking frequent swipes at her and nicknaming her "Birdbrain."

Haley, in return, has publicly said she refuses to endorse him for president.
