‘Remarkable’: Ally McCoist says one Man City player has done something absolutely ‘ridiculous’

Ally McCoist has said that one Manchester City player has done something completely remarkable.

The Blues beat Fulham 4-0 away from home in their latest Premier League game to take a step closer to potentially winning another title.

Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring for City in the 13th minute of the game to put his side 1-0 up.

In the second half, Phil Foden scored his 17th league goal of the campaign before Gvardiol got his name on the scoresheet once again.

Julian Alvarez then put the cherry on the cake in injury time by converting a penalty he won after replacing Erling Haaland in the 82nd minute.

Despite not getting a goal or an assist on the day, another member of Pep Guardiola’s side found himself on the end of some heavy praise, not just for what he did against Fulham, but what he’s been doing for a long time in the City team.

Speaking on TNT Sports’ co-commentary (via BBC Sport) towards the end of the game in West London, McCoist had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Rodri is going to be 48 games unbeaten – that statistic alone is ridiculous.

“He makes the game look so simple. It’s remarkable, it genuinely is.”

As McCoist mentioned, Rodri is now unbeaten in 48 Premier League games and 72 across all competitions excluding penalty shootouts.

Rodri has been City’s key player this season

This season has seen the Spaniard feature in 32 Premier League games, scoring seven goals and delivering nine assists along the way.

Out of the four league games he hasn’t appeared in, City have lost three of them, which highlights just how important he is for the team and how much of an impact his absence has.

Rodri’s performances have earned him an overall season rating of 7.62/10 from WhoScored, making him the second-highest-rated player in the division prior to this weekend’s round of fixtures.

Taking all of that into account, it comes as no surprise to us that McCoist is completely blown away by not only Rodri’s staggering record but also by how he plays the game.
