Arsenal are now 'seriously considering' activating £43m release clause for key target

Arsenal’s interest in Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has been well-documented in recent months, and they could be set to step this up in the coming months.

The 21-year-old has been outstanding this season, scoring seven times and providing 16 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, and helping his side win a historic Copa Del Rey triumph.

As a result, he has been linked with several top clubs across Europe including Barcelona, but Mikel Arteta has been credited with an interest as he aims to add a speedy attacker to his front line.

Arsenal have been scoring freely in recent months, but there is a lack of pace in the attack when Gabriel Martinelli is not present, and a winger who can play on both sides to also provide cover for Bukayo Saka would be ideal.

Arsenal considering stepping up move for Nico Williams

A report from GIVEMESPORT has now revealed that Arsenal are now ready to step up their interest in Williams, who has a £43m release clause.

“Arsenal have sounded out Williams after deciding to up the ante in their pursuit, according to GMS sources, and they are seriously considering triggering the £43million release clause written into his Athletic Bilbao contract due to being confident that he represents good value for money,” the report stated.

Williams can play on both sides, but predominantly starts on the left wing. With Martinelli recently dropped after struggling for form, the Spain International could even end up starting ahead of him.

At 21, he already has 100 La Liga appearances under his belt, and has room to further improve in his development.

£43m represents outstanding value for an attacker who could become a key player in the long term, and he would inject some much-needed speed into the Arsenal attack.

It remains to be seen whether Williams will be keen on exiting his boyhood club, but if Arsenal can convince him to move to the Emirates, he would be the ideal signing.

Pedro Neto has also been linked, but his injury record could be a red flag for Arteta, whilst Michael Olise is likely to have a much higher price tag, and the prospect of an attacking line with Saka and Williams is a mouthwatering one.
