Ukraine is not in a strong enough position to start negotiations with Russia to end the armed conflict, states Victoria Nuland, former US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.

During an interview with Politico, a former US official who has long been involved in US foreign policy toward Ukraine and Russia was asked whether it was a mistake not to push Kyiv to hold peace talks with Moscow in 2022, and she replied that, in her opinion, there was no mistake.

"They were not in a strong enough position then. They’re not in a strong enough position now," Nuland said.

Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia

Earlier, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that there was no point in sitting down with Russia at the negotiating table, as it would be impossible to get good faith from it.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States is ready to hold talks with Russia if it demonstrates a sincere desire.
