N.J. casino to offer helicopter service to its roof from NYC

Gamblers from New York City will have a fast luxury option to get to Atlantic City this summer — helicopter service to Ocean Resort Casino.

Ocean Resort Casino is partnering with BLADE to offer weekend service, departing from 12th Avenue and West 30th Street in Manhattan and touching down 49 minutes later on the rooftop helipad at the hotel, according to a news release.

Riders must purchase a round-trip ticket that will cost $1,390 ($695 each way). The six-passenger helicopter will fly from New York to Atlantic City every Saturday at noon starting May 25. The return flight from Ocean Resort Casino departs the following day at 2 p.m, according to scheduled published on Blade.com.

The summer service concludes the weekend of Sept. 7 and 8.

Passengers who purchase a round trip ride on the helicopter and a stay at Ocean Resort will also receive a complimentary bottle of Moët Imperial.

From 2009-2012, a rail service, the Atlantic City Express Service provided service between New York and Atlantic City. The service was sponsored by several casino operators and funded through the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, which contracted with NJ Transit to run the operation. But the service, which ran three days a week, was abandoned.

The train took between 2½ hours and 2 hours and 45 minutes to complete its run from New York’s Penn Station to the Atlantic City rail depot. Part of that time involved a delay in Philadelphia where the train had to switch from electric service to a diesel locomotive, a process that could take up to 15 minutes.
