‘He infuriates you’: BBC pundit now slams forward Gary O'Neil loaned out of Wolves in January

Wolves loanee Fabio Silva was criticised for what did in the Old Firm derby against Celtic this afternoon.

Fabio Silva was loaned out to Rangers in the January transfer window to rediscover his confidence and perhaps enable Wolves to sell him this summer.

Similarly to his appearances at Molineux, the 21-year-old has struggled to impact games and has angered supporters with his theatrics.

The Portuguese striker received criticism from former Rangers striker Kris Boyd in the pulsating 3-3 draw with Celtic last month, labelling him a “disgrace” for rolling around on the floor.

Unfortunately, he also missed a chance in the Scottish Cup final that was described as “comical”, with Silva struggling to make an impact north of the border.

Despite scoring five times in a Rangers shirt, he was once again criticised for his display on Saturday lunchtime as The Gers effectively saw their title chances come to an end against Celtic.

Fabio Silva hailed as ‘terrible’ in Old Firm Derby

Rangers only chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title was by beating arch-rivals Celtic, but after losing 2-1 at Celtic Park, Philippe Clement’s side will have to settle for second place.

The reverse fixture at Ibrox was a pulsating contest which ended 3-3 and the early stages of this one threatened to live up to similar hype. Three goals were scored inside 5 first-half minutes, but sadly, Silva was unable to inspire his side to victory.

In truth, he had an afternoon to forget, recording a paltry 54% pass completion, firing all three of his shots wide of the target and losing possession a staggering 15 times.

He was hauled off by his manager in the 74th minute after producing a match rating of 6, as per Sofascore, with former Rangers striker Billy Dodds left angered by his display on two occasions.

Firstly, he said (via BBC Sport): “Fabio Silva does some good things and some crazy things. He infuriates you at times.”

He also added: “Fabio Silva has been strong offensively, but defensively he’s been terrible.”

Wolves could struggle to sell Fabio Silva

There is an acceptance that Wolves won’t come close to recouping the £35 million they paid for Silva, and they could struggle to offload him altogether.

Rangers have already claimed they don’t want to sign him permanently, with his performances in Scotland not justifying a permanent deal.

With that said, he is still very young and has a lot of time to develop, but the first thing he must do is cut the theatrics out of his game.

Silva’s struggles at Molineux, scoring five goals in 72 appearances, along with his time at Rangers, could make it increasingly difficult to sell him this summer unless he moves abroad.

Time will tell as to whether the Old Gold will recoup a decent fee for him…
